ABOUT JUDGE JAMES
Judge Elroy James is a native of New Orleans, born at Charity Hospital. He is product of the New Orleans public school system, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Georgetown Law Center. He is the youngest of three children and the product of a single-family household, that was headed by a single woman. Elroy witnessed his mother having to work two jobs for most of his youth.
Judge James understands the experiences of people in New Orleans who work hard and want the best for their families. He worked in fast food restaurants and supermarkets during high school and college, and eventually became a lawyer, practicing both as a plaintiff and defense attorney. Judge James will be compassionate and fair.
Judge James was elected without opposition to First City Court in 2023.
Music To His Ears
Growing up in a single-mother household, Judge Elroy James learned about the challenges faced by families in New Orleans who work hard to succeed. That understanding has inspired his life and career and is why he wants everyone who enters his courtroom to know they're in a safe space. That's what he'll do as your next Judge.
